"FireStarter 2018" Report
On August 13-26, the Organization successfully implemented its traditional Summer Program for high-school students “FireStarter”. This year the project was conducted in summer camp “Asteroid” in the city of Ussuriysk.
“FireStarter 2018” gathered 23 schoolchildren from 10 cities aged from 12 to 17 interested in their self-development and advancement of their English-speaking skills. Throughout the Program, its participants had a chance to acquire knowledge in the concepts of leadership, goal-setting, teamwork, and to get acquainted with the United Nations functioning and Sustainable Development Goals initiative at everyday lectures and trainings.
Additionally, being divided into 3 teams since the beginning of the Program they were actively involved into various competitions demonstrating their critical thinking, talents, creativity and mainly team spirit.
An amazing territory and infrastructure of the camp added an extra excitement to the Program participants who had an opportunity to enjoy a swimming pool with aquarium, diverse sport grounds and planetarium. Moreover, the camp was also attended by astrologists who let the participants to enjoy the views of stars and planets via modern telescopes.
The development component in frames of the Program was strengthened by the lectures of two MUNRFE outstanding alumni Ms. Natalia Martynova and Ms. Olga Bukach who shared their knowledge in the spheres of business development and consulting, and leadership development, respectively. An extra boost to leadership and public speaking of participants was provided by Parliamentary debates held at the first week of the Program and Model UN conference conducted in the very end. During Model UN debates participates were representing diplomats of real states in frames of the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations Economic and Social Council, disputing on the issues of transnational terrorism and racial discrimination. As a result, Maria Arapova (Vladivostok) and Alena Garvat (Belogorsk) were recognized as winners and were awarded free participation in MUNRFE Annual Conference 2018 that is to be held on December 7-10 in Vladivostok.
The Organization would like to express its deepest appreciation to all those who have contributed to the implementation of the Program. Firstly, we would like to thank the Coordinator Ms. Ekaterina Tretiakova and Vice-Coordinator Ms. Anna Timokhina for their job and congratulate on the successful end of the project. Moreover, we would like to recognize the work done by FireStarter Representative in Blagoveshchensk Ms. Elizaveta Sungurova and the Working Group namely Ms. Olga Vikhareva, Ms. Aleksandra Chernysheva, Ms. Daria Zlydar, Ms. Yana Linkevich, Mr. Egor Klimovich and Mr. Vsevolod Cheresov. Special recognition and appreciation should be given to those who ensured the brightest implementation of all created ideas and plans for “FireStarter 2018” – its advisers Mr. Vsevolod Cheresov, Ms. Oksana Guliychuk, Mr. Egor Klimovich and Ms. Anna Timokhina.
We hope to continue a bright tradition of “FireStarter” further and provide even more young leaders of the Russian Far East with unique opportunities for their self-growth.
