FEMUN 2024 REPORT
On May 17-20, the Far Eastern Model United Nations 2024 took place on the premises of the Far Eastern Federal University. More than 40 participants from Russia (Blagoveshchensk, Vladivostok, Moscow, Ulan-Ude and Yakutsk) as well as Botswana, Nigeria and Brazil were debating for 4 days on the global-pressing Agenda items.
During the FEMUN 2024 work of the UN Security Council, General Assembly Second Committee and General Assembly Third Committee were simulated. The Conference commenced with the Opening Plenary Session under the topic of “Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”.
Participants debated on the following Agenda items:
UN Security Council:
- Non-proliferation.
UN General Assembly Second Committee:
- Promotion of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism, Including Ecotourism for Poverty Eradication and Environment Protection.
UN General Assembly Third Committee:
- Family Reunification in the Context of Resettlement and Integration.
During the Opening Ceremony participants heard the welcoming addresses made by honorable guests:
- Mr. Nikita Smirnov, Deputy Vice-President for International Relations of FEFU;
- Mr. Aleksei Stanonis, the Counsellor of the International Youth Cooperation and Tourism Office of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education;
- Mr. Vasily Palmov, Attaché at the Representation of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vladivostok;
- H.E. Mr. António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General;
- Dr. Gandbold Baasanjav, the Director of the Subregional Office for East and North-East Asia of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific;
- H.E. Mr. Siddarth Gowrav, the Consul General of India in Vladivostok;
- H.E. Ms. Piao Yangfan, the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Vladivostok;
- Ms. Maria Koptseva, Deputy Director of the Youth Resource Center of Vladivostok.
Alongside with the debates and educational segment, participants had an opportunity to visit “Artetazh” Contemporary Art Center and Multimedia history park “Russia – my history” in frames of the Cultural Program, organized by the Far Eastern Branch of "Russkiy Mir" Foundation.
Due to the authentic UN4MUN format all the delegates had a chance to be elected as the General Assembly Official (GAO) and moderate the work of the Committee. Due to the results of the elections, the role of the GAOs were performed by the following delegates:
- Elizaveta Repushkina, Chairperson of the UN General Assembly Second Committee;
- Alina Malkhanova, Chairperson of the UN General Assembly Third Committee.
In accordance with the rules of rotation in the UN Security Council the duties of the President of the Security Council were performed by Ms. Sofia Murashkina (Mozambique).
After the four days of the debates the following delegates were recognised with the Conference Awards.
Outstanding Delegation award:
- Republic of Korea - Polina Asanova, Elizaveta Repushkina, Alina Malkhanova, head delegate - Alina Malkhanova;
- Germany - Bogdan Vardanian, Sofia Naumenko, adviser - Daria Vasileva;
- United States of America - Alyona Kirnosova, Evgenia Sabirova, Maryana Sleptsova, adviser - Margarita Lavreteva;
- France - Kirill Nizamov, Ekaterina Balkunova, Roman Isoyan, head delegate - Kirill Nizamov.
Best Document award:
- Bogdan Vardanian - Germany, UN General Assembly Second Commitee.
Diplomacy Award:
- Kirill Nizamov - France, UN Security Council;
- Leonid Dronov - China, UN General Assembly Third Committee;
- Ekaterina Balkunova - France, UN General Assembly Second Committee.
The recipients of the Diplomacy Award will participate in the next MUNRFE Leadership Program, which includes participation in the international MUN Conference as well as visiting Russian and International institutions.
We appreciate the contribution of the large and professional team, who worked for several months and put the greatest endeavors in the implementation of the FEMUN 2024. MUNRFE extends its gratitude to the FEMUN 2024 Secretary-General Ms. Ksenia Zaytceva and Under-Secretary-General for Conference Management Mr. Artem Safronov.
