The issue of regional security in Asia was discussed at “ASEAN in Global Affairs”
From May 27-29, MUNRFE Vladivostok club carried out the “ASEAN in Global Affairs” project under the leadership of Oleg Povzyk and Dmitriy Goryachev. This initiative included the lecture on regional institutions in East Asia by FEFU Department of International Relations lecturer Dr. Sergey Sevastyanov and MUN debate session on “Combating Maritime Piracy in Southeast Asia”. Besides, before the debates, MUNRFE Senior Associate for Public Information and the member of the MUNRFE delegation to NMUN-NY 2019 Galina Salnikova delivered a briefing on the agenda item and chaired the debates.
During the final debates, delegates had an opportunity to represent one of 18 states of East Asia Summit in frames of the Model UN simulation. As a result of the consultations, they adopted the East Asia Leaders’ statement on combating maritime piracy. Maksim Sorokin became the “Outstanding Delegate”, and Polina Dolgopolova – “Distinguished Delegate”. The winners received prizes from the Language School “Language Industry” that was the sponsor of the project.

MUNRFE has been involved in ASEAN-related initiatives since 2014 when its members for the first time participated in Russia-ASEAN Youth Summit. In 2015, MUNRFE had the honor to organize the third Russia-ASEAN Youth Summit in FEFU.
The first project by Vladivostok Club “Russia-ASEAN: Prospects for Successful Cooperation” was devoted to searching for the ways towards strengthening Russia-ASEAN integration. In 2019, two ASEAN-related initiatives were conducted by the Club: the set of lectures “ASEAN in all its Complexity” as well as the event from the article.
