MUNRFE and UNHCR-Russia agreed on further cooperation plan
On March 12, MUNRFE Board met with the officers of the United Nations Refugee Agency Representation in Russia (UNHCR-Russia), Mr. Ararat Babayan, and Ms. Dinara Galakhova.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the partnership in terms of several key MUNRFE events in the year 2021 – namely, the Far Eastern Model UN in May, the Refugee Week in June, and the Annual Conference which is to be conducted for the 20th time and to become a part of the Model UN Refugee Challenge for the second time this December.
The Model UN Refugee Challenge is an international competition that was initiated by the UNHCR to raise awareness on the issues before refugees through Model UN conferences. Delegates of relevant committees elaborate their solutions to the problems raised which are sent to the UNHCR. In turn, the agency provides support for the organizers of the conferences participating in the MUN Refugee Challenge.
In 2020, MUNRFE Annual Conference received a video address from Mr. Vanno Noupech, Representative of UNHCR in Russia, and Mr. Keane Shum, Senior Policy Officer at the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has conducted a Committee Lecture for the United Nations Environment Assembly simulation.
