Global Model United Nations 2011 has started!
It is our great pleasure to share with you the information from the Republic of Korea: the 3rd Global Model United Nations Conference in the Korean city Inchon has started!
The honor of MUNRFE is represented there by Olga Katina, Alexey Sidorenko, Andrey Kozinets and Anastasia Skripnick. We would like to mention especially that Anastasia Skripnick is a member of the Secretariat during such a big and important youth-related international event.
More than 600 delegates from all over the world will have debates in frames 4 committees of the UN General Assembly: 1st Committee – international security and disarmament, 2nd Committee – economic and financial issues, 3rd Committee – Social, Humanitarian and Cultural affairs and 4th Committee – special political and decolonization issues.
In accordance with the upcoming Rio+20 Summit, which will be the milestone in international community’s devotion toward addressing the most urgent and important issues of sustainable development and green economy, the topic “SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: Advancing human progress in harmony with nature” was selected to be the general topic of the Global Model UN. Each team during the Conference is really international – MUNRFE members represent different countries (Hungary, Burkina Faso and Egypt) and have 3 teammates from different parts of the world. Each country had to choose a Head Delegate – the highest authority over the decision-making process of the delegation, who needs to have a thorough understanding of the procedural rules, all topics under discussion in all the committees of the UN GA and who will be responsible for coordinating the lobbying efforts of their delegations. Head delegates will have to attend special meetings with the GA Officials before each debates session.
In the team of Arab Republic of Egypt Andrey Kozinets was unanimously elected as a Head delegate who will be also the main liaison between the Conference Officials and the respective delegation. This conference will have as much realistic procedural rule and code of conduct as possible and delegates will have a great opportunity to dive into the atmosphere of real UN work. According to the latest information the Mayor of Inchon has already welcomed participants of the GMUN 2011, and moreover, the UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon will address a speech for delegates tomorrow (August, 11). The Conference promises to be very serious and tough, nevertheless, MUNRFE delegates will make all their best in order to make a great performance during the Global Model UN 2011.
