MUNRFE at the APIMUN Conference 2012
Good beginnings define half of the whole result. We can surely say that MUNRFE follows this statement. The MUNRFE had a wonderful entrance into the new school year by its participation at the Asia-Pacific International MUN Conference, which was held in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand, on 20-24 of September, 2012.
The Conference was conducted under the auspices of the Asian Institute of Technology and ASEAN Regional Center of Excellence on MDGs with the support of UN ESCAP and Royal Thai Government. Remarkably, the opening ceremony was conducted exactly in the UN ESCAP headquarters, which serves as one of the most important UN platform in Asia.
MUNRFE was represented in 8 committees out of 11, having 7 delegates and 1 out of 2 advisers debating. Our performance was sufficient enough for receiving two Best Delegate awards. They were given to Vladimir Tananykin in First Committee of GA (the adviser of the team, who was debating because of refusals in the team) and to Margarita Mchedlishvili in Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. Moreover, Ksenia Shevtsova took a Best Position Paper award. Finally, MUNRFE delegation, representing Germany, was recognized as an Outstanding Delegation at APMUN 2012. What is even more significant is that it was the third in a row foreign MUN conference, where MUNRFE got a special recognition as a team (AIMUN – Best Team, NMUN – Distinguished Delegation).
Moreover, according to the conference policy, schools or MUN associations were encouraged to arrange meetings with diplomatic representatives of their assigned states. Fortunately, almost for the first time in the nearest MUNRFE history the advisers managed two meetings for the team with professional diplomats on duty. The first one was the briefing from Political and Protocol Counsellor of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Thailand Mr. Arend Wulff, who, in our opinion, definitely fostered the level of preparation of MUNRFE delegation. After the conference MUNRFE delegation was also honored to have a meeting in the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand with Senior Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN ESCAP Mr. Evgeny G. Bessonov, Third Secretary Mr. Taras A. Pronin, Attaché and Assistant Permanent Representative to the UN ESCAP Mr. Ilya A. Andreev. This direct experience transition from our famous Russian diplomatic corps might be the key for MUNRFE future successes.
The total composition of APMUN 2012 Outstanding Delegation was the following: Valeria Knysheva, Ksenia Shevtsova, Marina Rashchepkina, Margarita Mchedlishvili, Anna Ivanova, Denis Plotnikov, Oksana Zimenko, and Vitaliy Savenkov with Vladimir Tananykin as advisers. We express our deep gratitude to those who have contributed to the process of preparation. Thank you, dear colleagues! We are very happy and proud of APMUN success this time and hope this trend will be continued in future.
