Meeting with the professor from the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation
On the 27th of March Vladivostok MUNRFE Club was visited by an outstanding guest, the FEFU visiting professor from the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Prof. Valery D. Nikolaenko. During his half-century professional diplomat career, Prof. Nikolaenko served in various capacities, including but not limited to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Ambassador of the USSR and Russia to Columbia, Costa Rica, Kazakhstan, Greece, Nicaragua (and Guatemala simultaneously), Secretary-General of the Organization for Collective Security. He acquired the rank of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, as well as the Doctorate degree in political sciences and the Candidate degree in historical sciences.
Valeriy Dmitrievich held a briefing about his personal diplomatic experience, as well as diplomatic service and policy-making in general. He shared a lot of amazing stories, which happened to him during his work, including historical events like Cuban Missile Crisis, and recent events like victory of Sochi in a competition on hosting of winter Olympic Games 2014 in Guatemala. The meeting was held in an informal way, and Prof. Nikolaenko was delivering his speech in English. Besides, MUNRFE members had an opportunity to ask questions of their interest to Valery Dmitrievich, and the majority of them were about the situation in Ukraine because participants wanted to know the opinion of a competent expert.
