Round Table project successfully conducted in Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service
On March 1, 2016 Vladivostok MUNRFE Club launched a Round Table project in the Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service (VSUES) in Russian language under the leadership of Mr. Bogdan Naumov and Mr. Alexey Stanonis. The project was dedicated to the agenda item: «Solving problems of cooperation during implementation of counter-terrorism policy in the Middle East», and consisted of a series of lectures and the Round Table discussion itself in the form of Model UN debate session. MUNRFE gladly appreciated the invaluable support provided by VSUES Institute of Law, in particular the Chair of Theory and History of the Russian and Foreign Law.
The first two weeks of the project included 4 lectures delivered by Associate Professor at the VSUES Department of International Business and Finance, Member of the Russian Political Science Association, Dr. Andrei B. Volynchuk, Ph.D. The first lecture «Historical aspects of formation of the Middle East region» brought together more than 30 Students of VSUES and high schools of Vladivostok.
After two weeks of lectures, aimed at studying the round table agenda, the participants began the preparation for the debates in frames of the United Nations Security Council. Ms. Ekaterina Tretyakova, the President of Vladivostok MUNRFE Club, and Ms. Alyona Filimonova, the Vice-President of Vladivostok MUNRFE Club assisted participants in their preparation for the debates by delivering lectures on public-speaking, negotiation skills and use of procedural rules. During the last day of lectures, participants had an opportunity to practice the obtained knowledge and to take part in training debates conducted by the project coordinators.
The Round Table was held on March 19, 2016, in frames of the UN Security Council simulation presided by Ms. Victoria Yavorskaya, MUNRFE Deputy Executive Director, and Ms. Alyona Filimonova. Throughout 5 hours of debates, participants managed to elaborate a draft resolution, which was successfully adopted by the Council. The Best Delegate of the Round Table, elected by voting among the delegates, was the delegate of Angola - Ms. Alexandra Stetsenko, who was awarded with free participation in the Far Eastern Model United Nations 2016, which is going to be conducted on May, 5-8, in Far Eastern Federal University.
This project has enabled school and university students of Vladivostok to take part in MUNRFE activities. In addition, the members of Vladivostok MUNRFE Club had a chance to practice their skills in the field before the upcoming Conference.
