MUNRFE received a grant from the United Nations Association of Russia to participate in C-MIMUN, Moscow
MUNRFE delegation took part in the largest and the most eminent MUN Conference of Russia — Churkin Moscow International Model United Nations (C-MIMUN) 2019. The event took place on 14-19 April 2019 in the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) with committees in the six United Nations (UN) official languages. Upon successfully undergoing the selection process within MUNRFE, Blagoveshchensk Club President Elisaveta Sungurova and Vladivostok Club member Aleksandra Mikhailiuk were nominated to represent the Organization at C-MIMUN and perform as the delegates of India and Paraguay respectively in frames of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) simulation. It is noteworthy that the trip of our delegation was made possible due to the support of our partners — the United Nations Association of Russia.
Ms. Sungurova and Ms. Mikhailiuk, for whom the C-MIMUN has become the first non-MUNRFE conference, demonstrated a high level of knowledge on the discussed agenda item “Promotion of international cooperation to combat illicit financial flows in order to foster sustainable development” in frames of the ECOSOC in English. Also, despite the fact that C-MIMUN procedural rules were quite different from those of MUNRFE conferences, our representatives adapted quickly, always preserving their activeness and professionalism, thus allowing them to contribute to the work of the committee greatly.
“This week was really remarkable, all those hot debates, caucuses, informal dinners and meetings left their mark on me as a future diplomat. MUN unites people who are «greedy» for knowledge and that's super cool! I believe it is the greatest virtue of a man of nowadays — to increase it for success not only in the future profession but also in life in general’’, — Ms. Sungurova told us. “The most crucial point I have realized is that MUN is a platform for peaceful bright future because it unites millions of students all over the world”, — Ms. Mikhailiuk added.
As MUN is not only about debating but also about broadening the knowledge on the UN and global issues, our delegates got a chance to do so during the lectures organized for C-MIMUN participants. The legal consultant for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Russia Madina Chedzhemova, who was invited as a social activist, briefed on the work of the Organization as well as highlighted the importance of raising awareness of the term “refugee”.
In addition, MUNRFE members along with other C-MIMUN participants got an opportunity to take part in the cultural program involving Moscow sightseeing tours and the C-MIMUN Ball. Ms. Mikhailiuk shared her impressions with us: “In my opinion, the brightest event was the C-MIMUN Ball. There were delegates of all the committees. I had a feeling that we returned a few centuries ago, boys invited girls to dance. We were dancing polka, waltz, mazurka”.
MUNRFE would like to one more time express its gratitude to the United Nations Association of Russia for making our participation in C-MIMUN possible this year. We highly value the opportunity to gain experience of debating in one of the biggest MUNs in the world, establish useful connections as well as just be represented to such a remarkable event.
