MUNRFE Annual Conference 2019 has successfully started
On 5 December, the MUNRFE Annual Conference 2019 has officially started. The Conference gathered around 90 participants from various parts of Russia and abroad on the premises of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in Vladivostok. The participants represent United Nations Member States to four committees, namely: East Asia Summit, UN Environmental Assembly, UN Security Council as well as World Bank.
The introductory word was given by Dr. Danil A. Scherban, FEFU Deputy Vice-President for International Relations, who emphasized the importance of holding such events to promote youth-to-youth level communication, build bonds with the future leaders, who, Mr. Scherban insisted, are the leaders of today capable of improving our contemporary world. Further, Ms. Alexandra Yu. Kosyreva, MUNRFE Executive Director, expressed her deepest gratitude to MUNRFE strategic partner - Far Eastern Federal University - for the constant support of the Organization’s activities and events.
In the continuation of the Opening Ceremony, Dr. Alexander N. Zubritsky, the Director of the Far Eastern Branch of «Russkiy Mir» Foundation noted that both Russian and English are the languages of global communication, often allowing to preserve international peace and maintain productive dialogue. He stated that mutual respect, trust, and sincerity have been the key pillars of the effective partnership between «Russkiy Mir» Foundation and MUNRFE for 10 years already. Furthermore, Mr. Vladimir S. Pavinsky, Public Information Officer of the UN Information Center in Moscow admitted that Model UN is a crucial aspect of the future diplomats' preparation, their acquiring new skills, and making up long-lasting friendships that will later pave the way for making the world a free-of-conflicts and prosperous place. Further, Mr. Sakuragi Yusuke, Vice-Consul for Cultural and Educational Issues of Consulate General of Japan in Vladivostok wished good luck to the delegates, hoping for their fruitful debates in the simulated Model UN committees.
Continuing the welcoming address of esteemed guests, Ms. Larisa I. Fugol, Program analyst of the World Bank Moscow Office drew attention of the participants to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and their salience for the global community and further explained their role in frames of the World Bank Group projects. Besides, Ms. Nailia D. Mirsaitova, Legal adviser of the International Committee of the Red Cross Regional Delegation for the Russian Federation, Belarus, and Moldova, delivered an address about the questions connected with international law, especially to the Geneva Conventions, asking to refer to them at their respective committees. Finally, the Secretary-General of MUNRFE Annual Conference 2019, Mr. Aleksei Ya. Stanonis wished the delegates productive debates and effective negotiations.
The Opening Ceremony was followed by the Opening Plenary where the agenda items were adopted by the delegates by unanimous vote. Following the results of the Plenary Session, the first committee sessions have begun and will finish on December 9, 2019.
