MUNRFE at the United Nations
For more than 10 years of its existence, MUNRFE has been sending the Team of winners of its International Conference to the United States in order to show great results in debating, public speaking and knowledge. Though it has already become a tradition for the Organization to win the highest awards at Conferences in San-Francisco and New York, the year of 2014 turned out to be special for MUNRFE for one more reason. For the first time in the history MUNRFE delegates was honored to visit the Permanent Mission of a represented country to the United Nations. This time representing the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the delegation had an opportunity to meet the Deputy Permanent Representative, Chargé d'Affairs a.i. of the Lao PDR to the United Nations, Mr. Kham-Inh Khitchadeth and other diplomatic officers of the LPDR Permanent Mission to the UN.
After the first day of the National MUN Conference, with the purpose to form an image of real Lao diplomats and make performance of the Team at NMUN more successful, MUNRFE Delegation attended this meeting, which provided participants with comprehensive and exclusive information about the peculiarities of Laos’ policy, collaboration of LPDR with other States and key priorities of the Lao Government. Honorable Chargé d'Affairs a.i. kindly answered the questions concerning the implementation of MDGs, role of Laos in ASEAN, protection of the rights of women and their participation in the decision- making process of the country, programs on the protection of the rights of migrants and their integration into the society as well as the ways of achievement sustainable development of the State. Furthermore, considering the issue of human rights, Mr. Kham-Inh Khitchadeth drawn the attention to the point that concepts of democracy and protection of human rights cannot be universal for all the States and should be implemented in accordance with social, cultural and economical features of an each country.
This bright event made the participation of MUNRFE Delegation to National MUN 2014 in New York remarkable as well as made a significant contribution to the overall performance of MUNRFE delegates during the Conference. It was the second MUNRFE Team, which was honored to hold a meeting with diplomats, after the glorious MUNRFE Team to the Asia-Pacific International Model UN 2012 in Bangkok, when our Delegation met the Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia in the Pacific, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand and the Counsellor of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Thailand. We believe that such initiatives will become a tradition and will strengthen the position of MUNRFE not only in frames of Model UN sphere but in external affairs of the Organization as well.
