MUNRFE is represented on APEC Summit 2009!
From 13th to 15th of November 2009 world leaders gathered at APEC Summit in Singapore in order to discuss the topic of «Sustaining growth, connecting the region». And four days before it, Singapore welcomed 120 young leaders from APEC countries to participate at «APEC Voices of the Future» - a unique platform for exchanging opinions, views and cultures.
Russian Federation was represented by a team of 4 people and one of them was Irina Fedorenko — MUNRFE member and coordinator of the environmental project «Green Light».
The program of the Summit was very diverse and fulfilled:
Delegates discussed the issue of sustainable development with the Minister of Development Youth and Sport and the Chairman of Singaporean Management University.
Then followed the tea in the White House with the President with Singapore. Delegates visited learning center of the Youth Olympic Games which will be held in Singapore in August 2010 and met representatives of the International Olympic Committee. After sport, the main issue was opened for the participants — sustainable development.
Singaporeans not only showed positive examples of green mechanisms in their country, but also provided the platform for the comprehensive debates on climate change and natural
environments. Irina Fedorenko with other delegates had a chance to discuss the «hot» topics with the Chairman of Copenhagen negotiations Tim Flannery and learnt about environmental policy, clean energy and eco-cities.
The problem of global warming became one of the main in discussions of APEC Business Advisory Committee, CEO Summit and even the meeting with Hollywood actor Jet Li. Also environmental sustainability was widely discussed at the APEC CEO Summit by the World leaders. The presence at APEC CEO was amazing – not everyday you see 10 presidents at one stage.
And of course, the speech of Dmitry Medvedev was one of the most remarkable event of the Summit. Future meeting in Vladivostok in 2012 was mentioned many times, and not only by Russian officials but even by the first Prime Minister of Singapore Li Kuang Yew. And one year before the real Summit in 2011 there was a proposal to conduct APEC Youth Summit in Vladivostok. The members of the MUNRFE are more then welcome to participate in the preparation of this event and in future “APEC Voices of the Future” meetings.
