MUNRFE Delegation to NMUN New York 2019 visited the World Bank and the UN Information Center in Moscow
On March 21, the MUNRFE delegation to the NMUN New York 2019 paid visits to the Office of World Bank (WB) along with the United Nations Information Center in Moscow. Both the Organizations warmly welcomed the delegates and shared with them many aspects of their work in the Russian Federation as well as the main priorities of Russia in frames of their mandate.
The first visit was to the World Bank Russia. The MUNRFE delegates had the honor to talk with the Director of the branch Mr. Andras Horvai about the World Bank’s activities in Russia, such as the forest fires management, development of meteorological forecasts, protection of cultural heritage, and fostering the financial literacy. Furthermore, the delegates had an opportunity to discuss the main aspects of Russian contribution to the World Bank and the main trends in the Official Development Assistance with the WB analysts Ms. Yulia A. Komagaeva and Ms. Larisa I. Fugol.
Right after the first visit, the MUNRFE delegation headed to the UN Information Center in Moscow (UNIC). At the Center, they had a meeting with the UNIC Councilor Mr. Vladimir S. Pavinsky. During the conversation, MUNRFE members learned more about the work of the United Nations and UNIC in particular, its main principles and most interesting. Also, the delegates used an opportunity to ask questions about the importance of media coverage of UN’s work, the challenges caused by the development of information and communication technologies, the work of the UN Resident Coordinators, and the importance of raising public awareness of such global issues like nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.
Both the visits turned out to be useful for the NMUN delegation. All the members of the delegation admitted that communication with the people who work for the sake of sustainable development in international organizations changed their perception of international relations and the United Nations in particular.
MUNRFE would like to express its deepest gratitude to the World Bank Russia and the UNIC for hosting the NMUN delegation and sharing with them the main aspects of their work as well as an expert opinion on important issues of global concern. The Organization hopes for future collaboration and deepening the partnership with the Russian branches of such significant intergovernmental organizations.
