MUNRFE Delegation’s to NMUN-NY 2019 visits in New York
The National Model UN 2019 in New York has come to an end with MUNRFE Delegation having achieved outstanding results. Apart from profound experience the MUNRFE team gained at the NMUN, they had an opportunity to discuss the current situation at the international arena as well as the US educational system with respectful experts in the fields.
On March 25, the MUNRFE delegation met with the Permanent Representative of Malta to the UN H.E. Carmelo Inguanez. They discussed the role of Malta in the work of the United Nations and the main priorities of Maltese foreign policy. Also, H.E. Inguanez told the delegates about means of tackling refugee crisis and climate change as well as means of promotion of gender equality and sustainable energy for all, which Malta applies in its work.
On March 30, the NMUN team were honored to pay a visit to the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN and to have a conversation with the Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN H.E. Dmitry A. Polyanskiy. They discussed the Russian perspective of the work of the United Nations on a variety of issues, including the promotion of gender equality, migration policies, promotion of Sustainable Development Goals, etc. Besides, H.E. Polyanskiy described the Russian position upon the ongoing revitalization of the General Assembly and the Security Council Reform.
Apart from the official visits to the Permanent Missions, on March 30, the MUNRFE delegates seized an opportunity to visit the two global academic frontiers: the New York University (NYU) and the Columbia University. In NYU they had a meeting with the Department of Anthropology Chair Prof. Bruce Grant, who immensed the delegates into the NYU history, interesting facts, and simply daily routine at the university. Besides, they discussed the differences between Russian and American educational systems.
In the Columbia University, MUNRFE delegation paid a visit to the Harriman Institute, one of the world's leading academic institutions devoted to Russian, Eurasian and East European studies. There, the delegates had a meeting with the the Master of Arts in Regional Studies – Russia, Eurasia and Eastern Europe Program Director Prof. Elise Giuliano and the Head of Russian Community Council of the USA Mrs. Elena V. Branson. They discussed the American perception of studying Russian culture and policy, Americans studying in Russia, and the cooperation of the Institute with Russian universities.
