Far Eastern Model UN 2019 successfully started
On May 14, the Opening Ceremony of the Far Eastern Model United Nations (FEMUN) 2019 was successfully conducted on the premises of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). The attendees had an honor to receive welcoming addresses by the distinguished guests from the East and North-East Asia Office of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Far Eastern Branch of “Russkiy Mir” Foundation, and Far Eastern Federal University.
The FEFU Acting Vice President for International Relations Mr. Danil A. Shcherban outlined the significance of the long-lasting partnership between the University and other present entities. His speech was followed by the remarks of the MUNRFE Executive Director Ms. Alexandra Yu. Kosyreva who emphasized the contribution of FEMUN to the development of young leaders.
After the address by Ms. Kosyreva, the Head of East and North-East Asia Office of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Dr. Ganbold Baasanjav highlighted the conducive and beneficial cooperation of MUNRFE and various governmental and non-governmental organizations as an essential component for advancing strong community.
Furthermore, the Director of Far Eastern Branch of “Russkiy Mir” Foundation Dr. Alexander N. Zubritskiy stressed the significance of Russian culture promotion through such international events as FEMUN 2019. Moreover, the idea of an engagement of youth in tackling global challenges was raised in the address of the Head of the UNESCO Chair “Marine Ecology”, FEFU School of Natural Sciences, Dr. Nadezhda K. Khristoforova.
Concluding the ceremonial part of the meeting, FEMUN 2019 Secretary-General Mr. Egor Klimovich determined the role of the Conference as a platform for exchanging ideas and promotion of such United Nations values as consensus building and youth inclusion.
Further, the General Assembly President Aleksandra Chernysheva conducted the Opening Plenary where the agenda items namely “Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all” and “Strengthening of the coordination of humanitarian and disaster relief assistance of the United Nations” were adopted by the General Assembly. It was followed by the speeches on “The Transformative Impact on Digital Technologies” delivered by the representatives of Cote d’Ivoire, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and the USA. The delegates pointed out the positions of their respective states and expressed their intention to work towards the attainment of the common goal.
The following day was scheduled with an open lecture by Dr. Ganbold Baasanjav on the United Nations system along with the Committee Training conducted by the FEMUN 2019 Under-Secretary-General for Political, Economic and Social Affairs Ms. Anna Timokhina.
