Model United Nations of the Russian Far East (MUNRFE) invites young leaders interested in international relations and concerned about global issues to participate in MUNRFE Annual Conference 2019*, which will take place on 5-9 December 2019. The main partner of the event is Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU).

Model UN format implies that delegates will have a chance to act as actual diplomats and represent the interests of UN Member States regarding such global challenges as environment protection, sustainable development, and maintenance of international peace and security. In addition, the Conference is a perfect platform to acquire and master a variety of skills including negotiations, documents writing, leadership, public speaking, and others.

On May 14, the Opening Ceremony of the Far Eastern Model United Nations (FEMUN) 2019 was successfully conducted on the premises of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). The attendees had an honor to receive welcoming addresses by the distinguished guests from the East and North-East Asia Office of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Far Eastern Branch of “Russkiy Mir” Foundation, and Far Eastern Federal University.

The FEFU Acting Vice President for International Relations Mr. Danil A. Shcherban outlined the significance of the long-lasting partnership between the University and other present entities. His speech was followed by the remarks of the MUNRFE Executive Director Ms. Alexandra Yu. Kosyreva who emphasized the contribution of FEMUN to the development of young leaders.

On April 29 – May 2, MUNRFE Councilor Elena Kiseleva successfully accomplished her duties as a part of Secretariat at the World Federation of the United Nations Associations (WFUNA) International MUN (WIMUN) India 2019.

WIMUN India was implemented at the Jaypee Palace in Agra and gathered more than 300 participants along with the most diverse secretariat representing all the world’s continents. In frames of the conference, Elena performed the duties of the Secretary of the Commission on Population and Development. The conference was implemented with the application of WIMUN approach, which derived from the UN4MUN concept, developed by the United Nations Department of Public Information and represents the most accurate simulation of the United Nations work.

On 19-21 April, MUNRFE Vladivostok Club President Ms. Daria Zlydar, Vice-President Ms. Alyona Plekhanova as well as Club members Ms. Aleksandra Chernysheva and Ms. Polina Dolgopolova successfully represented MUNRFE at the student forum “University of Student Self-governance”, conducted by the United Students’ Council of Far Eastern Federal University.

The Forum is an educational intensive course for members of FEFU student entities devoted to acquirement, development, and enhancement of skills and knowledge in the sphere of the student self-governance.

On 3-13 April 2019, MUNRFE Vladivostok Club successfully carried out the ‘‘Round Table’’ (RT) 2019. This educational event was held in Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) under the leadership of Ms. Elizaveta Kalinina and Ms. Daria Kurushina. The participants of the RT got an opportunity to enhance their knowledge on the topic of humanitarian aid during lectures and then debate on the agenda item "Strengthening international cooperation in humanitarian assistance" in frames of Model United Nations simulation.

During the two weeks of the project, FEFU and other Vladivostok universities’ and schools’ students attended lectures about humanitarian aid and global migration processes, as well as the role of the United Nations in providing lifesaving assistance by invited experts namely FEFU International Relations Department Assistant Professor Dr. Andrey Kozinets, FEFU International Relations Department Assistant Professor Ms. Marina Pershina as well as experienced MUNRFE members.

Chairman of MUNRFE Advisory Council Mr. Vitaly Savenkov successfully participated in “the Future We Want Model UN – New York” 2019 (FWWMUN) as an Economic and Social Council Chairperson. The Conference took place from February 28 to March 3, 2019, and gathered about 2000 delegates from more than 130 UN Member States to discuss global issues of concern.

One of the main features of FWWMUN 2019 was a large number of high-profile experts. At the Opening Ceremony, a Serbian Diplomat and the President of the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly H.E. Mr. Vuk Jeremic along with Executive Director of Italian Diplomatic Academy Dr. Abramo Chabib, the main organizer of the Conference, and the First Woman President Rotary Club of New York Ms. Helen Reisler delivered their welcoming speeches. Moreover, ECOSOC delegates had the honor to be briefed by Permanent Representative of Denmark to the UN H.E. Mr. Martin Bille Hermann.
